Dr. Judith Richter
Meet Dr. Judith Richter who in the summer of 1998 fulfilled a lifelong dream when she founded the NIR School of the Heart. Prior to establishing the NIR School, Dr. Richter pursued successful careers both in academics and business, but has always remained an educator at heart. Dr. Richter was a faculty member and lecturer at the Recanati Graduate School of Business Administration at Tel Aviv University. She is a graduate of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and received her Ph.D. from Boston University.
Education has always been a cornerstone in Dr. Richter’s upbringing. In the NIR School environment, Dr. Richter utilizes education as a tool for bridging cultures. She seeks to provide a nurturing environment for promising teenage students in which they can learn about the latest medical innovations, and through cooperation get to know and respect one another. Dr. Richter is co-founder and CEO of Medinol Ltd., a worldwide technological leader in the field of minimal invasive cardiovascular technology. Dr. Richter has been the driving force behind the development and success of the NIR School of the Heart.
Dr. Kobi Richter
Meet Dr. Kobi Richter, one of Israel’s leading entrepreneurs. Dr. Richter was among the founders and head of Research and Development at Orbotech Ltd., which develops and produces advanced hi-tech equipment for inspecting and imaging circuit boards and display panels. Dr. Richter is co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Medinol Ltd. He also acts as Chief Technical Officer of Medinol Ltd., and has been globally recognized for his innovation and vision in the cardiovascular field.
Dr. Richter received his Ph.D. in Medical Sciences from Tel Aviv University. He later pursued post-doctoral studies in cognitive sciences and taught artificial intelligence as a visiting professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Within the framework of the NIR School, Dr. Richter is dedicated to the NIR School and plays a vital part in the final group projects presented by the students.
Prof. Elazer Edelman
Dr. Elazer Edelman is the NIR School’s Chancellor, and is involved in each of the school’s groups with his lectures and curriculum development.
Dr. Edelman, Thomas D. and Virginia W. Cabot Professor of Health Sciences and Technology at MIT, is a cardiologist at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Since 1995 Dr. Edelman has been the Director of the Biomedical Engineering Center (BMEC) at the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology, dedicated to the application of the rigors of the physical sciences to elucidate fundamental biologic processes and mechanisms of disease.
A pioneer in both vascular biology and the development and assessment of biotechnology, Dr. Edelman is the recipient of numerous awards and honors and the author of major publications and reports.
Thanks to the joint efforts of the founders, the idea of the NIR School has been transformed from dream to reality, which, it is hoped, will benefit everyone in the region.
